Observational drawing underpins my practice, often with a sketchbook in hand, standing in the middle of a public place and chatting to those who approach me. I draw my surroundings as well as listening and noting down comments from passers-by.
Over the past few years, a collaboration has emerged with my Grandmother a ceramicist and me. I work with the glazes and use illustration to decorate her pieces. My reportage drawings are a constant reference as I strive to simplify and discover abstract forms. Designing as I decorate, leaves room for both interpretation and experimentation. Whilst several pieces could be inspired by the same drawing, different parts or angles are extracted whilst changing the composition.
